Sayville High School Presents First Service Above Self Awards

Anthony Allegrezza and Ian Donenfeld Honored For Their Community Work.

Sayville High School’s student government recently introduced a new initiative called the Service Above Self Award. The honor recognizes students’ work in their communities and celebrates their service within the school community. Seniors Anthony Allegrezza and Ian Donenfeld were selected as the first-ever recipients of the award in recognition of their commitment to creating a positive impact on the community through leadership and dedication. The award was originally championed by the late Long Island educator and humanitarian Chestene Coverdale.

Anthony Allegrezza was honored for his commitment to serving others, particularly local veterans, through organizing breakfasts and holiday care packages. Ian Donenfeld was awarded for his dedication to organizing a local toy drive with his mother. Sayville Board of Education Trustee Kathy VanDorn was inspired to introduce the concept to the District in which the selection process is facilitated by Jennifer Sohl, the Student Government’s advisor.

“There is no one more deserving of the Service Above Self Award than Anthony and Ian. Both have made incredible contributions to the Sayville community with quiet dedication and humility, never seeking recognition,” said Sayville High School Principal Stephanie Bricker. “This new award reflects the values we hope to instill in our students at the high school through our commitment to our CORE principles.”
