Sayville High School Receives Prestigious Distinction

Sayville High School has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence—both in the classroom and in athletic competition. The school recently earned the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) School of Distinction award for the 2025-2026 school year.

The prestigious designation recognizes schools that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to academic achievement across all athletic programs. Schools qualify for the honor only if every varsity team earns NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team recognition during its respective sports season by meeting the organization's academic standard, requiring at least 75 percent of each team's active roster to achieve a collective grade point average (GPA) of 90.00 or higher during the official marking period or sports season.

“This recognition reflects the dedication and perseverance of our student-athletes, coaches, teachers, and families,” Dr. Ryan Cox, Director of Physical Education, Health and Interscholastic Athletics, said. “At Sayville High School, we believe excellence extends beyond athletic performance. Our students consistently demonstrate that they can compete at a high level while maintaining a strong commitment to academics, and we are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished.”

For the 2025-2026 school year, only 118 schools statewide earned the NYSPHSAA School of Distinction designation, placing Sayville High School among an elite group of schools recognized for supporting student success in every arena.
