Sayville Students Spend Summer Learning in SCOPE Program

Sayville School District students in kindergarten through fifth grade spent part of their summers building skills; sparking creativity; and celebrating America's 250th birthday through SCOPE Enrichment's Summer 2026 program, “Salute to America's 250th!”

“Summer learning should be engaging, inspiring, and filled with opportunities for students to explore their interests in new ways,” Dr. Marc Ferris, Superintendent of Schools, said. “Through SCOPE's Summer Enrichment program, our students participated in a wide range of hands-on experiences that blended academics, STEM, the arts, and physical activity, allowing them to continue growing, creating, and building confidence throughout the summer while still having fun.”

Held on weekday mornings in July at Cherry Avenue Elementary School, the four-week program gave students the opportunity to register weekly and explore a new course each session, or return to a favorite theme multiple times throughout the summer.

In “American Mini Warrior: Fitness, Fun, Adventure!”, students built strength and agility through safe, boot-camp-style relay races, obstacle courses, and team challenges. Aspiring young chefs rolled up their sleeves in “All-American Eats: A Culinary Adventure,” where they explored American summer cuisine through hands-on baking and no-bake recipes inspired by classic treats.

Aspiring engineers took on the “Build & Thrill: Summer STEM at the Amusement Park” course, designing and testing model roller coasters, Ferris wheels, and spinning rides while applying core concepts in gravity, speed, energy, and motion. Young artists brought their imaginations to life in “Summer at the Circus: A Fine Arts Exploration of Color, Character & Creativity,” creating colorful paintings and sculptures inspired by classic American circuses, culminating in a vibrant student art showcase.

Older and younger performers alike took the stage in “Stars, Stripes & Showtunes: A Broadway Tribute to America's 250th Birthday,” a two-week musical theater program that drew thematic inspiration from beloved productions such as Annie, Hamilton, Newsies, and 1776. Students built up their acting and singing skills while exploring themes of independence, resilience, and civic pride, and the program culminated in an informal showcase performance for families.

Students also had the opportunity to strengthen core academic skills through “SCOPE Summer Academics: Summer Fun with Academics,” a series of week-long sessions grouped by grade level that reinforced reading, writing, and math skills through interactive and developmentally appropriate lessons designed to prepare students for success in the upcoming school year.

Sayville School District partners with SCOPE Education Services each summer to provide engaging enrichment opportunities that extend learning beyond the school year. SCOPE is a not-for-profit organization chartered by the New York State Board of Regents that offers a wide range of educational programs and services for students, families, educators, and school districts across New York.
