Police say Brandon Hampson stabbed Rachel Frislid, 62, inside her home before fleeing to a Massachusetts motel.

SAYVILLE, NY — A Sayville woman found dead inside her home last week was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend, who later died after being shot by police in Massachusetts, Suffolk County police said Thursday.

Hampson, Frislid’s ex-boyfriend, stabbed her to death inside her Pearl Court home on Sept. 3, according to police.

Frislid had been found unconscious by a family member inside the home at about 8:30 p.m. that night. Police initially said detectives believed she had been the victim of violence and opened a murder investigation.

Detectives later determined Hampson was staying at the French King Restaurant and Motel at 129 French King Highway in Erving, Massachusetts, police said.

Suffolk detectives requested assistance from the Erving Police Department and Massachusetts State Police.

Officers from those agencies responded to the motel on Sept. 9 and saw Hampson outside, police said.

When officers approached him at about 9:15 p.m., Hampson displayed a knife and charged at officers, according to Suffolk police.

Hampson was shot and taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later, police said.

Suffolk police did not immediately provide additional information about what led up to Frislid’s killing or how detectives identified Hampson as the person responsible.
