Special Notice to Residents of Sayville Union Free School District

Regarding a candidate no longer running for the Sayville Board of Education in the May 17th election.

May 16, 2022

Mr. Desmond Megna—one of three candidates on the ballot for the Sayville school board seat vacated by Norm deVenau—has “voluntarily and irrevocably” withdrawn his name from the May 17th school election ballot. To be clear—Mr. Megna is no longer running as a candidate for a seat on the Sayville Board of Education in the May 17th election.

The District has referred this matter to legal counsel, NY State and local officials and will follow the guidance they provide.

Due to the extremely short notice provided to us, the District was unable to modify the current ballot. This means that Mr. Megna’s name will still appear on the ballot, but he is no longer running as a candidate.

This notice is being distributed and displayed throughout the community as well as posted prominently at the election site on May 17th.
