Street Renaming Ceremony Honors Sayville Hero
A special ceremony was held this week to honor Sayville resident and NYPD Transit officer who died from a 9/11 related illness in 2009.

SAYVILLE, NY -- The Town of Islip honored a Sayville resident who died from a 9/11 related illness with a street renaming and dedication ceremony this week.
Robert Zane Jr. was a NYPD transit officer who died in 2009. He is survived by his wife, Tracy, and their children, Robert III and Abigail.
Officers hosted the ceremony to honor the local resident after his 15-year-old son reached out and organized the event. The ceremony was attended by his family, many members of the community and several local first responders.

The attendees gathered at the intersection of Versa Place and Lowell Road, which was renamed Robert A. Zane Jr. Way to honor the officer and his legacy in the Sayville community.
