Sunrise Drive Elementary School Honors Veterans and Military During Flag Day Ceremony
Celebration Encourages Student Appreciation and Respect of Civic Duty
Sunrise Drive Elementary School in Sayville proudly continued its longstanding tradition of honoring military service and patriotism during its annual Flag Day celebration, welcoming active-duty military members and veterans from the school community for a special day of recognition.
Hosted by the Sunrise Drive Student Council and advisors Mary Pat Holler and Keri Athan, the event brought together students, staff, families, and honored guests to celebrate the sacrifices and contributions of those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
The day began with a breakfast, where veterans and active-duty service members gathered with family and friends. Following the breakfast, the honored guests were escorted into the cafeteria, where the entire student body and staff were assembled for a special recognition ceremony.

Principal Dr. James Foy welcomed attendees and spoke about the importance of service and sacrifice. During the ceremony, each veteran and active-duty military member was recognized by name and branch of service and presented with a commemorative service award. The school also acknowledged staff members and students with loved ones currently serving overseas.
The celebration reflects Sunrise Drive Elementary's ongoing commitment to honoring military personnel and first responders while teaching students the value of service to others. Through annual events and community-centered initiatives, the school strives to instill respect and civic responsibility in its students.

In addition to recognizing military service members, Sunrise Drive also celebrated students who demonstrate service within their own school community. Students were recognized and applauded for their contributions, including serving as helpers, assisting classmates, and consistently exhibiting kindness and good character.
