Sylvan Avenue Elementary School students celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday this March by participating in a variety of literacy-based activities.
Fifth-grade students celebrated Read Across America Day by reading to some of the school’s younger students. Wearing shirts that can be read by their buddies, the students read several of Dr. Seuss’s most popular books before engaged in fun activities with their buddies. They created posters that promote reading using only the words from The Cat in the Hat and drafting Dr. Seuss acrostic poems.
Fourth-grade students in Lauren Coleman also met with their book buddies with Christina Law’s first grade class to celebrate Read Across America. The students read Dr. Seuss books to one another, and exchanged bookmarks and hats they created.
