Interested in summer art? Sarah Perry's first book, "If...", is comprised of twenty surrealist-inspired watercolors. Check out her work on display at the Learning Center of Katonah's Museum of Art. The magnificent visuals feature unexpected images and create a world where anything is possible. Some of her inspiring work includes images of leaves turning in fish, cats with wings, and butterflies. The exhibit is open to people of all ages and is held each week on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The museum is located on 134 Jay Street in Katonah and is worth the trip!
So we know this is a bit far in advance, but it is certainly something worth adding to your summer calendars. From August 23rd to the 25th, Scarsdale Parks and Recreation will be holding a lego workshop. Boys and girls from 1st to 4th grade are invited to "team build" and to create parks and space stations. The event will last from 10am to 11:30am on those three days and includes snacks. It will be held at the Girl Scout House, 37 Wayside Lane, and is $100 for the entire program. Don't let your kids miss out on this chance to get creative!
5. Blast from the past: Fiddlesticks
And lastly, here is a fascinating blast from the past for all you history buffs out there! Eighty-one years ago, today, was the launch of the first animated sound cartoon. Fiddlesticks, which was photographed in two-strip Technicolor (a color motion picture process), broke ground on August 16th, 1930. It was the first cartoon created by Ub Iwerks after his departure from Walt Disney’s studio. Interestingly enough, Iwerks was the creator of the notorious “Mickey Mouse” and the unnamed mouse in Fiddlesticks bears a strong resemblance to the character.
