Boys' Hoops: New Rochelle Beats Raiders

New Rochelle grabbed the lead quickly and never let go on Monday night, handily defeating the Raiders 78-46 in a foul-filled game that had the Huguenots on top, with 23 of their points shot from the free-throw line.

Halfway through the first quarter, the scoreboard looked grim for Scarsdale, with New Rochelle leading 11-2.  Raiders coach Jon Feld called a timeout that seemed to turn things around, leading to a five point run that cut the score to 11-7, but turnovers and fouls gave the Huguenots another eight points by the end of the quarter.

New Rochelle took advantage of their size to hack apart at the Raiders' offense and create mismatches on defense, double-teaming point guards 5'8 Greg Garfinkel and 5'6 Matt Greenberg as they ran the ball up the floor, which led to turnovers, a problem that Scarsdale seemed to have no answer for.

Raiders Henry Hirsch and David Bougard both notched nine points.  Forward Johan Drakes also added nine, including two three-pointers, and center Raymond Grazi had two monstrous blocks.
