Bringing Some 'Joy' To Scarsdale Village

A new frozen yogurt shop, Yogo Joy will be opening up in Scarsdale village on Saturday, July 3rd.

Scarsdale residents will be jumping for joy when frozen yogurt shop Yogo Joy opens its doors this Saturday afternoon to officially mark the beginning of summer.

The first Yogo Joy opened up in Rye a year ago, to much acclaim, even drawing in customers from far reaching locales such as Scarsdale. Soon enough, these out-of-towner started requesting a closer location, said Yogo Joy owner Ree K. Choi.

"Clients would come into the store and ask 'why aren't you in Scarsdale?'," says Choi.

"I love this town. It's famous in Westchester, and the building we are opening in is great," Choi added.

The location at 16 Harwood Court, the previous home of Arcade Stationers, is a beautiful, open space that is sure to accommodate large crowds on those sticky, summer nights.

The frozen yogurt craze reignited itself -after a brief foray in the 80's- about three years ago with Pinkberry, a Los Angeles based chain that has since moved to New York.

What makes Yogo Joy so different from the others, is the fact that they plan to offer eight flavors ranging from plain tart and green tea to more seasonal flavors like pomegranate and toasted coconut. There are also a multitude of toppings available including fresh fruits, granolas, cereals, nuts and candies.

The Yogo Joy website states that their philosophy is that the customer, "should have the ability to have things your way," and to "mix and match any yogurt flavors with various freshly cut fruit and dry toppings."

If you're not in the mood for frozen yogurt, there are other frosty options, which is another distinguishing feature of Yogo Joy.

"Not only are there the many different flavors and 45 different toppings, you can also have a yogo-smoothie, or bubble tea," Choi said enthusiastically, of the many options Yogo Joy has to offer.

The store offers ample seating and the design ascetics are fun and colorful - cheerful orange, white and green plastic blocks decorate the entrance- and quirky sayings such as "toss it" for garbage, "pump it" for the yogurt dispensers, and "top it" for -you guessed it - the toppings - are sprinkled throughout.

Unlike other frozen yogurt spots, Yogo Joy is self-serve, so you can feel free to have as much -or as little- as you'd like.

It is always exciting to have a new family friendly spot open up in town, and, for those who live closer to the Village, it is great to have a new place to satisfy your sweet tooth and then be able to burn the calories off by walking home.

Along with fresh fruit and healthy toppings, the yogurt itself is wholesome. It is made with plain yogurt that has live and active cultures called probiotics. These cultures promote good digestion and a healthy immune system.

Yogo Joy is open from 11am to 10pm, which is a extremely exciting proposition considering there aren't too many places to lounge at in the village after 7pm.
