Burns Supper, Feb. 21, Scarsdale

Rescheduled Robert Burns Supper, Feb. 21, 6 PM, Hitchcock Presbyterian Church, Scarsdale

The Hitchcock Presbyterian Church hosts a rescheduled Robert Burns Supper, beginning at 6 PM, Saturday, February 21, in the Hancock Room.

The event includes a celebration of the Scottish roots of Presbyterianism and the traditions associated with Scottish national poet Robert Burns (1759–1796).

Church Hospitality Chair and Mistress of Ceremonies for the event Jensina Olson of Dobbs Ferry describes the night as “A Mid-Winter Celebration of the Life and Genius of The Scottish Bard.” Music will be provided by a piper and drummer. James Ferguson will recite the “Address to a Haggis.”

The menu is a complete Burns Supper, beginning with asparagus and smoked salmon, followed by the full ceremonial presentation of the haggis. Filet mignon (or vegetarian alternative) and roasted root vegetables follow. Desserts include shortbread and lemon fool. A single-malt tasting is included.

According to church elder Betsy Bush of Scarsdale, “Burns Day Dinners give us Presbyterians a chance to reclaim an identity. We long ago faded into the neutral background of the wider American culture, against which so many ethnic and nationality groups celebrate their heritage: their colorful native costumes, tasty food, and upbeat, catchy music–all things we Presbyterians lack.”
