Con Ed Issues Apology to Edgemont Homes

Nearly a dozen homes in Edgemont lost power due to an accidental surge that Con Ed has taken responsibility for.

A power surge at the hands of Con Edison knocked ten Edgemont homes into darkness on Saturday, and the utility says it is working fervently to restore power, according to a recent report.

News 12 Westchester reported that a contractor working on a transformer Saturday morning made an erroneous hookup, which led to a power surge around 10 a.m. that has left residents on Argyle Rd. near Mt. Joy Ave. without electricity ever since.

According to Con Edison, electrical contractors will inspect each home individually for any sign of internal circuit damage so power can be safely restored.

Reporter Kim DiVestea spoke to frustrated local residents who are suffering their second outage within the week.

Mitchell Harte, one of ten homeowners who lost service, told News 12 "We have been lied to repeatedly. We have been told over and over again that people are on the way, within the hour," since the 10 a.m. outage over 24 hours earlier

"We heard an explosion in our house - the house shook. And I heard glass shatter," said resident Susan Seidman. "Nothing has been done, absolutely nothing. They can't get electricians here," she said to DiVestea.

Resident Greg Erber had slightly more patience.

"It's a terrible inconvenience, but, be that as it may, hopefully they can get their act together," Erber said.

Con Edison told the television news station that they "sincerely regret the incident" and apologized to customers for the outage.
