Daily Sports Digest: Local Teams Look To Resume Postseason

Last night, the section and local high schools were busy trying to figure out a way to get all the playoff games in.

With several schools around the Hudson Valley still without power from the weekend’s storm, it is presenting a challenge for athletic teams everywhere to find places to practice and play.

Below is the tentative schedule for today’s events, but please check with the Scarsdale and Edgemont school districts before heading out to any of the games as the section and schools have already pushed several contests back.

Today's Schedule:

In boy’s soccer, (13) Horace Greeley @ (5) Scarsdale 3 p.m.

In field hockey, (7) Scarsdale @ (2) Carmel at 6:30 p.m.

In volleyball, (6) Scarsdale @ (3) North Rockland 4:30 p.m.

In football, Edgemont @ Riverside 4 p.m.

In boy’s soccer, (7) Edgemont @ (2) Irvington 3 p.m.

In girl’s soccer, Edgemont will host Westlake in a make up of Saturday’s snowed out contest 3 p.m.

In field hockey, Somers and Edgemont will resume a suspended game at 4 p.m.

Friday's Results

Before snow came into town on Saturday, several local teams got their games in Friday night. Both of Scarsdale’s soccer teams were victorious at home, while the school’s volleyball team fell to Mamaroneck. The Raiders Field Hockey team also beat Arlington.

Edgemont was able to get in the boy’s soccer and volleyball games at home. The Panthers won both games, but they did have a few games get postponed. 

Friday's Results:

Sport: Boy’s Soccer

Game: North Rockland @ Scarsdale

Score:  Scarsdale Won 2-0

Highlights: Evan Hendel led the way for the Raiders as Scarsdale shut out North Rockland at home. In the win, Zachary Shabman had six saves in the goal.

Sport: Field Hockey

Game: Arlington @ Scarsdale

Score:  Scarsdale Won 2-1

Highlights: After being down at halftime, Scarsdale came back and won thanks to goals from Sydney Malsch and Caroline Knapp. Becky Schwatz had seven saves in the win.

Sport: Volleyball

Game: Mamaroneck @ Scarsdale

Score: Mamaroneck Won 3-1

Highlights: After falling in the first set, Mamaroneck rallied and won the next three to upset the 6th-seeded Raiders. Carina Spiro led Scarsdale in the loss with 18 kills.
 
Sport: Girl’s Soccer

Game: Ketcham @ Scarsdale

Score:  Scarsdale Won 5-1

Highlights: Charlotte Miller and Kate Hennessy had two goals each as Scarsdale cruised to victory. In the win, Allie Chaves had two saves in goal.
 
Sport: Boy’s Soccer

Game: Woodlands @ Edgemont

Score:  Edgemont Won 1-0

Highlights: Edgemont prevailed in a defensive struggle as they beat Woodlands 1-0.
 
Sport: Volleyball

Game: Putnam Valley @ Edgemont

Score:  Edgemont Won 3-0

Highlights: Edgemont won in straight sets 25-16, 25-15 and 25-22 to advance over Putnam Valley. Lauren Stuzin had eight kills and Vivian Zhong had ten assists in the win.
