LIVE CONCERT! Bollywood, Bhangra, Caribbean and Hip-Hop at the Greenburgh Public Library

What do Bollywood, Bhangra, Caribbean and Hip-Hop music have in common? They each have loads of drums and danceable beats and they make you want to get up and move! As part of the SURFING INTO SUMMER series of programs presented by the Greenburgh Public Library, the Library presents a concert performance featuring the drummers and dancers of the World Heritage Cultural Center that is guaranteed to get you on your feet. The concert will take place at the Greenburgh Public Library at 300 Tarrytown Road in Elmsford on Tuesday, July 27, at 7:00pm. The concert is free and people of all ages are welcome.

The program also demonstrates how closely related the individual styles of Indian Bollywood and Bhangra music and dance are to the music and dance styles of the Caribbean. Hip-Hip music and dance has been heavily influenced by these styles as it has evolved and now Hip-Hop music and dance is heavily influencing Bollywood, Bhangra and Carribean styles of music and dance.

The World Heritage Cultural Center is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting cultural awareness through the arts and making a positive impact through knowledge. It has been documented that as we learn more about other cultures, the more we understand them the more accepting we become of the way of life of the people of those cultures. One of the best ways to gain this kind of understanding is through an appreciation of the music and dance of those cultures. The understanding that comes from this kind of exchange is a large part of what the WHCC believes will bring about a more peaceful world.

Music, dance, art, acting, writing, language and food are among the top activities at for those who attend the WHCC. Artistically, students at the WHCC progress from beginners through advanced to senior level programs in the arts and will be recognized highly in the community. Because the World Cultural Heritage Center recognizes and welcomes all world cultures into its fold, the organization celebrates
all major cultural holidays by presenting events such as The World of Colors annual events in dance, music, and food festivals, held in New York City and Westchester County.

There will be something for everyone in this lively, energetic concert and dance presentation.  For those who may be unfamiliar with the Indian music and dance styles of Bollywood (Indian film music) and Bhangra, this is a great opportunity to come experience something new. You'll also experience music and dance styles from the Caribbean including Calypso and Reggae. Blend them all together with some Hip-Hop music and dance and you have something that will make you want to get up and dance yourself! Regardless of what you may or may not be familiar with, you'll be a big fan of all these styles by the concert's final selection.

Should you have questions regarding this event, please contact the Greenburgh Public Library at (914) 721-8224.
