The Ulu was an all-purpose knife that played an important role in the survival of the Inuit people of the Arctic. It had a variety of uses, including chopping or cutting up food, skining and cleaning animals, and trimming blocks of snow and ice to build an igloo. Ulus were traditionally made of slate and antler, horn or ivory, due to a lack of metal and wood in the Arctic.

Using traditional techniques, participants will have the opportunity to create their own slate Ulu knife that they may each bring home with them."

Bring a sharp pocket knife with a locking blade or a fixed blade (i.e. NOT a Swiss Army Knife or Leatherman tool). Limited to 8 participants. Minimum required age of 11 years to participate.
