YIDDISH THEATER COMES ALIVE

On Sunday, April 15 at 4:00 pm, Westchester Reform Temple is proud to welcome the revitalization of the Yiddish Theatre personified, Zalmen Mlotek, artistic director of The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene for one performance only. The renowned Mlotek will swell the sanctuary with Yiddish song in concert with renowned performer, Cantor Robert P. Abelson.  This free, family friendly concert will be in Mameloschen  (Yiddish) with English subtitles. Zalmen Mlotek is an internationally recognized authority on Yiddish folk and theater music and a leading figure in the Jewish theatre and concert worlds. Among Zalmen Mlotek’s most notable teachers and mentors was Leonard Bernstein. Mr. Mlotek also studied conducting with Zubin Mehta, James Levine and other masters of music and conducting.  Cantor Robert P. Abelson was a member for many seasons of the New York City Opera, has appeared in concert with many orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony and the Mostly Mozart Festival and has specialized in Yiddish art song.  He is presently serving as Cantor at Temple Israel of the City of New York. Westchester Reform Temple’s annual celebration of Yiddishkite and Yiddish music is sponsored by the Stephen H. Merkel Fund for Yiddish Music and Culture to honor the memory of our beloved Cantor Merkel z'l. Westchester Reform Temple is located at 255 Mamaroneck Road in Scarsdale, N.Y.  For directions or information, call 914-723-7727, email to office@wrtemple.org, or visit the web at www.wrtemple.org
