Former FBI Agent Continues to Sift Through Leads in Lauren Spierer Case

The Edgemont resident and Indiana University student has been missing since June, 2011.

The disappearance of Edgemont resident Lauren Spierer four years ago continues to yield leads, according to a former FBI agent who is looking into the case.

Brad Garrett told WRTV-TV that he has received more than two dozen leads in recent weeks some of which are worth further investigating.

“What’s encouraging is some of these leads are very specific about people involved, their interactions with Lauren the night that she disappeared, what possibly happened to her that night and who might be involved in her disappearance,” Garrett told the Indiana television station.

Spierer was a student at Indiana University when she disappeared following a night out with friends.

Another female IU student, named Hannah Wilson, was murdered near the school this month, which has prompted some speculation that Wilson’s and Spierer’s cases could possibly be linked.

But Indiana police cautioned against drawing any connections or conclusions because both cases involve IU students.

“It is very reasonable to expect law enforcement would compare a recent homicide investigation with a previous open case, especially with the similarities related to both cases involving college coeds from the same university,” Indiana State Police Sgt. Curt J. Durnil told The Journal News.
