Greenburgh Looks To Revitalize 4 Corners

The town authorized the purchase of two homes in the area that should help in a plan to widen the avenue.

HARTSDALE, NY — In a plan to revitalize the four corners in Hartsdale, the Greenburgh Town Board has authorized the purchase of two properties on W. Hartsdale Avenue for the eventual widening of a portion of the avenue to reduce traffic congestion. Supervisor Paul Feiner said the four corners in Hartsdale has been plagued with numerous vacancies over the years.

The board will forward to the planning board the "Hartsdale 4 Corners Study," which identifies the challenges that exist at the location — traffic, lack of parking, flooding, vacancies, etc.

Feiner said that the concepts supporting revitalization planning are a widening of both East and West Hartsdale avenues to implement new turning lanes for better traffic flow and incorporating better sidewalk connections, supporting the development of attractive and appropriately scaled mixed-use buildings with structured parking and public pocket parks and plazas.

Owning the two homes, Feiner said, will put the town into a position to work with the state Department of Transportation and state lawmakers to study the possibility of widening the avenue.
