Stolen Range Rover, Unlicensed Moped Driver and a Dog Bite (scarsdale10583.com) — Police and firefighters handled a busy week in Scarsdale, from a stolen Range Rover and a gas line strike to a teen's moped crash and a reported dog bite. The blotter also details traffic complaints, utility issues, teens dispersed from Scarsdale Avenue, and several minor civil and lost‑property matters between August 10 and 16.
   

2. Why Are the Fire Hydrants Sporting Color Collars? (scarsdale10583.com) — If you've noticed Scarsdale fire hydrants wearing colored collars, they're not decorations—they tell firefighters how much water each hydrant can deliver in an emergency. Deputy Village Manager Emily Giovanni explains the color code and stresses it reflects flow capacity, not hydrant condition, and residents can contact the fire chief with further questions.
   

3. 15 Hudson Valley high schools excel in U.S. News & World Report's '26-27 Best High Schools report' (midhudsonnews.com) — Scarsdale families can celebrate strong showings in the latest U.S. News high school rankings, with both Scarsdale Senior High and Edgemont Junior-Senior High recognized among the Hudson Valley's top performers. The list compares graduation rates, test scores, and college readiness across New York, putting several neighboring districts in Westchester and Putnam on the honor roll as well.
   

4. Former NYPD sergeant pleads guilty in fatal wrong-way Taconic crash that killed doorman (timesunion.com) — A fatal wrong-way crash on the Taconic State Parkway has led to a guilty plea from an off-duty NYPD sergeant, who admitted to driving drunk. Prosecutors say she had just left a party in Scarsdale with an open bar before entering the parkway in the wrong direction, killing a Peekskill man. Sentencing is expected later this year.
