J-Teen Leadership Teens Aid in Puerto Rico Disaster Relief
Teens from across Westchester participate in relief efforts
Twenty-five teens and parents from J-Teen Leadership, a program of UJA-Federation of NY, traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico over the February school break (February 17 -20) to
provide much needed disaster relief as a result of the hurricanes that ravaged
the island in September 2017.
Prior to the trip the teens held a philanthropy drive and collected close to $600 in
donations, and $3,100 in gift cards that they delivered to those in need. The
teens also brought over 1,500 pounds of supplies, including medical supplies
through The Afya Foundation, sports supplies through Temple Shaaray Tefila
social action program, as well as painting and cleaning supplies.
The teens also brought close to 500 hand-made cards, created as part of the J-Teen
Leadership UJA-Federation MLK Day of Service and delivered them to children at
the Boys and Girls Club of Puerto Rico.

While on the Island, the teens participated in multiple service projects, and also
had the opportunity to learn about the Jewish community at Temple Beth Shalom. Overall,
the teens touched the lives of over 3,600 people.
