Lancers Defeat Raiders 64-61 In Overtime

The Lincoln Lancers beat the SHS basketball team 64-61 in overtime.

Scarsdale Raider Henry Hirsch's 31 points weren't enough to get the win on Monday night as the Lincoln Lancers defeated the SHS basketball team 64-61 in overtime.

"We should've won that game," said Raiders coach Jon Feld.  "We had an opportunity to win in regulation but it just didn't happen... they made some really clutch shots down the stretch."

Lancer Dustin Hogue was particularly troublesome for the Raiders, scoring 19 on seven field-goals and five free throws.  Hogue, who is 6'4, caused a number of defensive problems for Scarsdale.

"[Hogue] was definitely the best player on the floor," said Feld.  "We tried [point guard Greg Garfinkel] on him, tried our big men on him, but he kept making clutch shots.  We just didn't have a true match-up for him."

The Raiders sorely missed 6'1 Jeremy Stafman, who was out sick.  With his great basketball IQ and decision-making abilities, he could have really made a difference toward the end of the game, Feld said.

"We have great size inside but we've been in a bit of a rut lately, with turnovers and inconsistent shooting," said Feld.  "There are times when some of the younger guys feel that they have to make the perfect decision rather than the good decision... but you can't always get that perfect decision."

Regardless, the coach was pleased with Hirsch's performance.

"He's our all around best player, just been a consistent stabilizing force this whole season.  Tonight was really his coming out party."

Lancer Anthony Phynn also put up 21 points.

The Raiders are now 5-5 and will face Mt. Vernon next week.
