Local PGA Pro Headed to KPMG Women's PGA Championship

Local PGA of America Golf Professional, Samantha Morrell of Fenway Golf Club in Scarsdale will once again tee it up in the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, June 20–23 at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington. Samantha is one of 8 PGA/LPGA club professionals to earn a spot on the Corebridge Financial Team competing in the Women’s PGA Championship where she will be alongside Nelly Korda, Rose Zhang, Lexi Thompson and some of the greatest golfers in the world.

Competing on the LPGA Tour each week is the primary job of professional golfers; however, Morrell is a PGA of America Golf Professional and LPGA Professional, and her day-to-day responsibilities at Fenway Golf Club are vastly different than an LPGA Tour player. Morrell is involved in giving lessons, golf programming and wears many other hats at her club.

Morrell earned her way into the event last July with her performance at the LPGA Professionals National Championship, finishing in 4th place.

“This will be my fourth major, all of which were KPMG Women’s PGA Championships,” Morrell said. “What makes playing in a major so special is just being on the driving range, and there goes Lexi Thompson and Nelly Korda. You share the same practice facilities, locker room and dining room. So just to make a statement and be at that major is amazing. It’s also cool to brush shoulders with the big girls.”

Morrell relishes the opportunity to compete on the international stage at the highest level in the sport, and she will have plenty of people around Fenway Golf Club pulling for her next week.
