Man Arrested in Scarsdale with Half-Kilo of Cocaine: Police

A traffic violation led to the subsequent discovery the illegal drugs.

Westchester County Police arrested a Connecticut man Sunday for allegedly having a half-kilo of cocaine in his car.

While on patrol on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Scarsdale, police stopped a 2004 Dodge Intrepid around 6:22 p.m. for a traffic violation.

Sergeant Steven Stromberg noticed that an alteration had been made to the vehicle’s center console—something he recognized as a method of creating a hidden compartment.

The driver, Nathaniel Jones, 29, of Hamden, CT was taken into custody for the inability to provide a valid driver’s license or registration and insurance documents for the car.

A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a plastic bag with a block of cocaine weighing 525 grams. The street value is approximately $20,000.

Jones was booked at county police headquarters in Hawthorne and charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled susbstance and third-degree intent to sell, both felonies.

He also faces several vehicle and traffic law violations.

Jones was arraigned in Scarsdale Village Court and held without bail at the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.
