Meeting To Discuss Edgemont Incorporation Set For Wednesday

The town could be impacted financially by a new village.

GREENBURGH, NY — The Hartsdale Neighbors Association will hold a community information session at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 to discuss the potential impact of the hamlet of Edgemont incorporating as a village.

Supervisor Paul Feiner said Edgemont residents filed a petition with the town to make Edgemont a village within the town.

He said there are sufficient signatures, as required by state law, a referendum will be held, likely sometime in June.

Feiner said residents of the town will be impacted because unincorporated Greenburgh will lose significant revenue.

The Hartsdale Neighbors Association estimates more that $17 million per year will be lost to the town.

“The average resident of Edgemont pays 16 percent of their total tax bill to the Town of Greenburgh for municipal services,” Feiner said. “The rest of their tax bill goes to the school district, county and fire district.”

He said he plans to form a task force made up of residents of unincorporated Greenburgh to work with department heads to review options in the event Edgemont voters OK incorporation.

“These option could include possible service cuts,” Feiner said.

Edgemont, as a village, may wish to contract for town services, he said, and the task force will work with department heads to recommend a fair pricing formula.

Those interested in serving on the task force can let Feiner know.
