Police Seize Handgun and Marijuana in Arrest Near Weaver Street
A traffic stop on the Hutchinson River Parkway yielded the arrest of two people and the seizure of a loaded handgun and more than a pound of marijuana.

A traffic stop on the Hutchinson River Parkway Wednesday night yielded the arrest of two people and the seizure of a loaded handgun and more than a pound of marijuana.
Hopeton Campbell, 42, and Tesfa McCaw, 28, both of Bridgeport, Conn., were taken into custody by Westchester County Police after they were stopped for speeding near Weaver Street and patrol noted that the female passenger and male driver had switched places.
McCaw admitted that she had switched places with Campbell because he lacked a license. The reporting officer arrested both after smelling a strong odor of marijuana. A vehicle search revealed nine bags holding a total of 1.5 pounds of marijuana and a .45-caliber Hi-Point handgun.

Campbell and McCaw were both charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Hopeton faces an additional charge of second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
