The Raiders successfully defended their home court as 15 teams showed up to Scarsdale High School on Saturday to compete in SHS's annual wrestling tournament.

With sophomore Jacob Berkowitz winning a key match-up in the 171 class of the Finals, the Raiders snagged first place in the tourney with 200.5 points, edging out Pleasantville's 185.

"This is the first team title we've won in almost ten years," said Raiders coach Barney Foltman. "It was a real team effort, and without that force we wouldn't have won the title."

Thirteen out of the 16 Raiders who entered the tournament all scored points.  Erik Wahlberg also put on a strong performance, winning a title by pin in the Finals.

"[Berkowitz] was the one who really iced the victory for us," said Foltman.  "It was a huge upset; [Pleasantville's Mike Morra] was highly touted, and here's this relatively unknown sophomore who just came out and did the job in stunning fashion."

Berkowitz won Most Outstanding Sophomore at the tournament.

But the Raiders aren't quite done yet, with divisionals and sectionals coming up soon.

"We still need to work on our aggressiveness and being able to take advantage when opportunities present themselves," said Foltman. "We still have a ways to go."
