The New Rochelle Huguenots wrestling team started off strong and never let down the pressure on Thursday, handily defeating the Scarsdale Raiders 51-28.
New Rochelle wrestlers played hard on the mat, pinning down Scarsdale in eight of the 15 matches. Raiders Alex Kay, Colin Muldoon, and Erik Wahlberg all fought back hard, pinning each of their respective opponents, but the team was unable to stop the Huguenots' momentum.
"We played really well, but New Rochelle just has a very solid team," said Raiders head coach Barney Foltman, pointing out that Scarsdale was particularly strong in the upper-weight range.

That strength showed on Thursday, with all but two Raiders in the 140 through 285 classes pinning or outscoring New Rochelle. In the lower-weight range, however, New Rochelle dominated, taking out every wrestler below 140.
"Scarsdale and New Rochelle have had a strong rivalry for years," Foltman said. "Back in the 90s we owned it, but New Rochelle has beaten us over the past few years."

Foltman said he hopes to turn things around with the start of a new decade.
The Raiders will hold a wrestling tournament this Saturday, when a number of Westchester schools will contend at Scarsdale Senior High School.
