It was an icy cold morning in Scarsdale on Saturday, although a few miles over in the Eastchester High School auditorium approximately 600 cheerleaders were just beginning to warm up.
I had a chance to catch up with the Varsity and JV coaches of the Scarsdale Cheerleaders, Stacey Monteiro and Danielle Tancredi, to ask them a few questions.
They are having another great season as they look forward to competing in Nationals this February, which will give them an escape - albeit a brief one - to sunny Florida.

Monteiro - a veteran Scarsdale coach with 9 years in the district - couldn't be any prouder of the girls' performance this season, as well as the work they have done for the community, including raising money for Haiti and breast cancer research.
For some, though, this meet was bittersweet: It was the last local competition for many of the girls.

Also, due to an injury the JV girls team withdrew unexpectedly from the competition. Coach Tancredi offered this advice to any girls out there thinking about cheerleading, "get involved in a gymnastics program, look for any of these youth clinics we have out there, we have a lot of options for young girls to join, its fun."
