Doing most of their damage with two outs, the Scarsdale Raiders cruised past the Dobbs Ferry Eagles on Thursday afternoon by a score of 11-1 in baseball. The Raiders scored a total of eight runs with two outs, including four in both the second and fourth innings.
"That's something we haven't done all season," Scarsdale head coach Doc Scholl said about hitting with two outs. "All year we've been saying that it's a mindset. Just this week we were practicing with men on base and asking who was going to step up and get the big hit for us. It's like we were embarrassed to get out today."
It turned out even the two first inning runs the Raiders scored would have been enough for their pitcher, Tyler Foote, who kept the Eagle offense at bay through five innings, allowing only three hits, one walk, and no earned runs while striking out five. By the time a Dobbs Ferry player finally crossed home plate the score was already 7-1.

"Frankly I don't feel like I had my best stuff today," said Foote. "But we had great fielding and great hitting. You feel a lot more confident with a big lead like that."
After giving up two singles to open up the game, Foote recovered well, not allowing another hit for the next three innings, something that caught his head coach's attention.

"He's been our number three this season but he can be a number one on most programs," Scholl said. "You look at the first inning, a young guy in his first full year of varsity and he gets out of a huge jam. That really set the tone for us."
Andrew Crean and Drew Schnieder combined for four strikeouts and two scoreless innings in relief of Foote. Another pitcher, Scarsdale ace Henry Hirsch, assigned the role of designated hitter against Dobbs Ferry, was a major contributor to the Raiders' offense on Thursday. Hirsch went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs, including three on a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning off Frank Lopez.
"Our hitting was just on today," Hirsch said. "We've had good pitching all year so if our hitting steps up like today I like our chances in the playoffs."
David Wheeler also had a strong game at the plate for Scarsdale, going 3-for-3 with two singles and a second inning two-run homerun to centerfield.
As Scholl emptied his bench in the last two innings, Dobbs Ferry's Zachary Avalos kept the score respectable pitching a solid fifth and sixth inning, striking out five while only allowing two hits.
Thursday's win moves Scarsdale to 14-5 on the season, and sends the Raiders into their final regular season game against White Plains on Saturday. Scarsdale has won its last four.
