Scarsdale Girls Lacrosse Earns Big 12-8 over Rye

Raiders are led by Jennie Pechman's four goals.

Scarsdale's girls lacrosse team defeated Rye on Saturday 12-8.  Scarsdale led 8-4 at the half, had its lead narrowed to 9-8 in the second half, but then scored the final three goals for the win.

With its lead down to one at 9-8, Scarsdale's coach Cece Berger called timeout to regroup her team.

"We wanted to get back on track," she said.

The strategy worked as Scarsdale's Jennie Pechman then scored to silence Rye's comeback run.

Rye Head Coach Lisa Zweigenhaft emphasized that success is about desire and playing with full-out effort the entire game.

"It's just about who wants it more," she said. "We have to play for fifty minutes."

When the final whistle sounded, the Raiders erupted into a loud on-field celebration as they had just beaten a highly-regarded Rye team, while the Garnets held their heads high in a hard-fought team effort.

It was a significant win for Scarsdale to beat such a highly-regarded opponent.

Rye was a cross-over game for Scarsdale and one of four Berger could pick the Raiders to play out of their class.

"They are a very good team," Berger said. "It was a huge win for us."

Pechman led the Raiders with four goals on the day. Liz Felix scored two.

Brittany McCormack had two for Rye.

Scarsdale's next game is against White Plains on Tuesday.
