Scarsdale Man Robbed While Tending Plot at Kensico Cemetery

An 84-year-old Scarsdale resident was accosted and robbed while planting flowers at his family plot in Mount Pleasant.

An 84-year-old Scarsdale man was robbed Saturday while tending flowers at his family's plot at Kensico Cemetery, according to Mount Pleasant police.

Police reports state that the man had been working at the family plot, about 200 feet from Grasslands Road, at approximately 12:15 p.m. when an unidentified man approached him from behind and pushed him to the ground before taking his wallet from his back pocket.

The man fled, and the victim drove around the cemetery in his car for about 10 minutes searching for the robber before calling the police. Patrol from Mount Pleasant, Greenburgh and the Westchester County police aviation unit canvassed the area but did not find the man, described as a 5-foot-10-inch black or dark-skinned Hispanic man with a slender build wearing dark pants and a dark short-sleeved shirt.

Police say the victim lost credit cards and an undetermined amount of cash. He did not suffer any injuries.

"It is a terrible incident, a really unusual incident and a really sad inicident that someone would attack an elderly gentleman in a cemetery," Police Chief Louis Alagno said.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Mount Pleasant police at 914-769-1941. Calls will be kept confidential.
