Scarsdale Police Blotter: Burglaries, Loose Animals and Mysterious Phone Calls

Last week in Scarsdale, several homes reported stolen objects, callers sighted loose animals roaming around Village streets and a mysterious caller phoned the School District inquiring about a former employee.

Friday, March 4

8:47 a.m. – A Post Road resident reported that $117.50 had been stolen from a lock box in her bedroom within the past ten days. An incident report was filed.

9:36 p.m.— A caller from Village Hall reported a man slumped over the wheel of a silver van parked in the upper parking lot. The driver had fallen asleep while waiting for his wife. No police assistance was needed.

10:47 p.m.— A Heathcote Road resident reported that an unknown individual tried to cash a fake check in his name for $4,796.28.

1:05 p.m.— A strange man was spotted walking in the backyard of a Penn Road residence. Police discovered that the individual was a water department employee who was reading the resident’s meter.

4:08 p.m.— A man reported to police headquarters after his vehicle was blue 2009 BMW was hit at 12 Overlook Road.

4:11 p.m.— A Scarsdale police detective was contacted by the Scarsdale School District to advise that an unknown male under multiple aliases had contacted the District Offices several times inquiring about a former employee, a substitute who was no longer employed with the District. The District believed that the caller was a similar individual who had called six years ago, and before that, 10 years ago to gain information about the former employee. The District had also noted that the caller had phoned school officials at their private residences to ask similar questions. No threats had been made. The District decided to advise the caller to cease contacting all school district offices and employees. Scarsdale Police Department told the District to contact them if the phone calls continued.

4:22 p.m.— A caller reported a silver Acura MDX driving recklessly on 300 Heathcoat and 1144 Wilmot roads. The vehicle was gone upon patrol’s arrival.

4:39 p.m.— A Good Samaritan dropped off a found dog at police dispatch. Patrol located the dog’s owner, a Cooper Road resident. All was in good order upon patrol departure.

4:50 p.m.— A caller from Gingerbread Kids reported a bird stuck in the store. Police arrived on scene and were able to secure the bird and release it into the wild.

6:08 p.m.— A Colonial Road homeowner reported that his house had been burglarized. A case report was filed.

6:37 p.m.— A possible vehicle accident occurred at the Scarsdale Pool on 311 Mamaroneck Road. The caller believed that the driver was potentially intoxicated, and advised police to check and advise.

8:16 p.m.— A 16-year-old female lost her purse on 2 Popham and 6 Garth roads. She claimed that it may have been taken off her shoulder, and a police incident was filed.

8:36 p.m.— A caller reported a potential altercation on a bus at 937 Post Road and 174 Boulevard. Police spoke to the involved parties, who stated that they had engaged in a verbal altercation. One individual agreed to leave the bus and take a cab home. No further police action was needed.

Saturday, March 5

9:47 a.m.— A caller from Paddington and Butler roads reported that construction workers were breaking the Village Ordinance for power equipment use by beginning construction on a neighboring resident at 8 a.m. Police spoke to the contractor, who was unaware that there was later time for weekend work. The contractor stated that his workers would no longer use power equipment before 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

1:57 p.m.— A minor vehicle collision occurred at the 7-11 on Garth Road. All parties agreed to exchange information with each other. No injuries were reported.

4:58 p.m.— A minor vehicle accident was reported in the parking lot of Dunkin’ Donuts at 10 Depot Place.

7:08 p.m.— Two loose dogs were reported running around Mamaroneck Road. Patrol canvassed the area with negative results.

8:18 p.m.— Two strange vehicles were parked in the driveway of a Murray Hill Road residence. Patrol arrived and spoke with one of the drivers, who stated that he was talking to a friend. No further police action was taken.

11:46 p.m.— A loud party was reported on Franklin Road. Police asked the homeowner to keep her music down, and advised that her party would be shut down if any other neighbors filed noise complaints. The resident agreed to turn down her music. All was in order upon departure.

Sunday, March 6

6:59 a.m.— A caller requested that police check on her 80-year-old father, who had been attempting to contact him all week with no response. Police located the man, who said that he was busy and would call his daughter.

8:40 p.m.— A Rodney Road resident’s car windows were broken overnight. An incident report was filed.

11:10 a.m.— A caller observed an anonymous party walking on the roof of the Scarsdale Public Library. Patrol checked the roof but did not locate the purported individual.

11:22 a.m.— Police received a 911 hang-up from Springdale Road and did not receive an answer upon call back. The caller had accidentally dialed dispatch in error; the homeowner had been attempting to dial India.

3:08 p.m.— A caller reported a sick raccoon roaming around her Tisdale Road property. Police arrived on scene and searched near the lake behind the resident’s house. The animal was not located.

7:04 p.m.— A blue 2003 Ford Crown Victoria and a gray 2009 Honda Accord collided on 11 Heathcote Road and 11 Morris Lane. Injuries resulted from the accident.
