Scarsdale Police Blotter: Gas Leaks, Coyote Sightings and Egged Tennis Clubs
This week in Scarsdale, a major gas leak was reported on Farley and Valley roads, vandalism occurred at Fox Meadow Tennis Club and coyotes were spotted roaming Village streets.

Monday, Oct. 3 — Friday, Oct. 7
8:14 a.m. — A caller from Fox Meadow Tennis Club called police after discovering that the club had been egged over the weekend. Police arrived and did not observe property damage, although numerous eggs had defaced the building's exterior. According to the club, this had been the second week in a row in which the facilities had been egged. Staff also reported that unknown individuals had been holding late-night weekend parties and leaving alcoholic beverage containers on the club's grounds. Police advised that they would perform extra ridebys and enter the incident in their patrol log.
12:10 p.m. — A female caller reported that a suspicious white van driving near her Brite Avenue residence after its operator observed her husband leave the area. Police complied to the caller's request to canvass the area but did not locate the van.
12:23 p.m. — Assistance was requested at the Beatty Lot on 15 B Freightway Road after a caller reported that he had discovered an unconscious female at the bottom of the lot's staircase adjacent to Garth Road. Eastchester police were the first to respond to the scene, as the caller originally stated that the woman had been found behind 58 Garth Road, which is located in Eastchester. The woman was believed to have been impaired by prescription medication and alcohol, as a prescription bottle of mixed pills and a can of "Dynamite Tilt" alcoholic beverage was found on her person. The woman was taken to Westchester Medical Center EVAC for medical attention.
2:32 p.m. — A large white golden retriever was reported missing from a Park Road residence.
3:08 p.m. — A coyote was reported in the backyard of an Aspen Road residence. Police did not observe any coyotes in the area.
3:45 p.m. — A Cayuga Road homeowner requested a residence check after hearing unusual noises inside her house. Police did not find any evidence of theft or tampering.
5:09 p.m. — A coyote was spotted on Springdale and Bansom roads. Police did not locate the animal.
8:17 p.m. — A walk-in complainant told patrol that an unknown individual had attempted to access her bank account information without her permission. An incident report was filed after patrol learned that this incident was related to a prior dispute with the complainant's husband.
Tuesday, Oct. 4
8:23 a.m. — A loose black-and-white dog was spotted running loose across Weaver Street at Hillandale Close. Police canvassed the area with negative results.
10:12 a.m. — A Bronxville resident reported that he had left a computer case at the Starbucks on 51 East Parkway.
3:44 p.m. — An unattended gray Mazda with New York tags was reported parked next to the stop sign at at the intersection of Brewster and Olmsted roads. While attempting to contact the vehicle's owner, the owner arrived and did not know why his car was parked next to the stop sign. Apparently the vehicle's owner had originally parked his car further down Brewster Road while engaging in a private tutoring appointment. Due to a malfunctioning emergency break, the owner believe his vehicle may have rolled from its parked position. No further assistance was needed.
4:31 p.m. — A complainant from Southwoods Lane reported that items had been stolen from her suitcase while waiting for a Delta Airlines flight.
7:57 p.m. — A caller from Scarsdale Friends reported her 2-year-old grandson missing to police. Patrol made contact with the caller's son, who had picked up his son without advising his mother. No further assistance was required.
Wednesday, Oct. 5
3:25 a.m. — A drunk passenger refused to pay her taxi driver a fare exceeding $100. The passenger's friend paid the fee via debt card and helped her arrive home safely. No additional police service was required.
4:26 p.m. — An erratic driver operating a gold car with Vermont license plates was reported traveling north on Post Road near Fenimore Road. Police canvassed northbound Post Road with negative results.
7:15 p.m. — A homeowner from Olmsted Road called police to report a loose dog in her driveway. A neighbor retrieved the canine from the caller's property prior to patrol's arrival.
9:11 p.m. — A hit-and-run accident with no injuries was reported on Post and Burgess roads.
10:37 p.m. — A Post Road resident called police after hearing strange noises on his property akin to "garbage cans being knocked around" and seeing an unknown figure wearing a winter coat cross his yard. Police canvassed the area but did not locate any trespassers.
Thursday, Oct. 6

8:33 a.m. — A caller reported that four bags sitting near the stop sign at 11 Mamaroneck and 32 Cooper roads appeared to be emanating a sort of vapor. Police arrived and found 4 wet bags full of leaves and grass clippings.
11:12 a.m. — An "emotionally-disturbed" male was arrested at La Dentelliere on 30 East Parkway.

11:24 a.m. — Police, fire departments from both Scarsdale and White Plains and Con Edison's Emergency Response Team were all required to provide assistance after a gas leak was discovered at Farley and Valley roads. All manholes exhibited high gas concentrations, and gas appeared to be flowing northerly into White Plains. Further inspections yielded the discovery of a major gas leak in a 1928 steel gas main running from White Plains into Scarsdale on Farley Road between Montrose Road and Valley Road. As a precaution, SPD, SFD and Con Ed personnel checked Greenacres Elementary School and neighboring houses with negative findings. The affected section of Farley Road was closed to all but Con Edison gas repair crews.
3:43 p.m. — A complainant from Sprague Road arrived at police headquarters to report a case of identity theft.
3:55 p.m. — A disabled dark Sedan was reported on Morris Lane and Heathcote roads. The vehicle was gone prior to patrol's arrival.
6:26 p.m. — A Greenacres man told police that an unknown party had called his house attempting to gain unauthorized access to his bank accounts. According to his report, an anonymous individual had contacted him claiming to be a Citibank representative and inquired whether he had made changes to his bank account. When the complainant said no, the caller hung up. The complainant contacted Citibank and was told that there was no record of anyone contacting him from their establishment.
6:35 p.m. — A child injured his arm while taking a self-defense class on Weaver Street. An ambulance transported him to White Plains Hospital Emergency Room.
9:04 p.m. — A raccoon was struck and injured on Johnson and Sprague roads. Police found the animal dead on the roadside and made a note to advise the sanitation department.
Friday, Oct. 7
4:04 a.m. — A complainant from Scarsdale Road told police that her neighbor's burglar alarm had been going off periodically through the night. Police did not hear any noise.
7:44 a.m. — An injured raccoon was reported at 76 Sprague and 153 Johnson roads. Police arrived and found a dead raccoon, which they handled by contacting highway patrol to dispose of the animal.
7:57 a.m. — A caller reported a large tractor trailer causing traffic conditions at 7 Popham Road and 32 School Lane. Patrol escorted the tractor trailer to its destination.
