Scarsdale Police Blotter: Home Burglaries, Loud Youths and Accidents on the Bronx River Parkway

This week in Scarsdale, a home was burglarized on Meadow Road, loud groups of adolescents disturbed neighboring residents and auto accidents occurred on the Bronx River Parkway.

Saturday, April 16

1:57 p.m.— A security guard on Cushman Road spotted an anonymous male dressed in all grey walking across a neighboring property. Police canvassed the area, but did not locate any intruders or find evidence of suspicious activity.

9:10 a.m.— An Oak Way resident arrived at police headquarters to file an identity theft report.

9:42 a.m.— A fire was reported from Ridgecrest North residence. Patrol arrived and spoke to the homeowner, who stated that she had accidentally left eggs frying on the stove and had called police after spotting the smoke from the basement. Scarsdale Fire Patrol arrived on scene and ventilated the house. No further assistance was required.

5:21 p.m.— A blue 2009 Honda and a green 2007 Toyota were involved in a motor vehicle accident with no injuries on 3 Fenimore Road and 1 Walworth Ave.

Sunday, April 17

9:17 a.m.— Items were reported stolen from a vehicle on Birchall Drive.

10:14 a.m.— A caller stated that the asphalt on 31 Harvest Drive appeared to be buckling and was concerned that it would become a sinkhole. Police arrived and found the pavement cracking and the road surface buckling at the reported location. The Highway Department was contacted, and advised police that a water main break might have occurred. The Water Department declared that no danger was present after arriving on scene to ascertain the roadway’s safety.

3:35 p.m.— A green 2005 Toyota Camry accidentally drove into the brook behind Scarsdale High School.

5:45 p.m.— A sick raccoon was spotted on Montrose Road. Patrol arrived and observed a calm raccoon sitting approximately 30 feet up in a nearby tree. Police declared the raccoon to be harmless and told the complainant to ignore the animal and let it go about its business.

5:48 p.m.— A pedestrian walking between 101 Weaver Street and 1 Stratton Road called police after he was almost struck by a vehicle. Patrol canvassed the area for a reckless driver with negative results.

6:53 p.m.— A small Yorkshire Terrier clad in a pink bow was spotted running across the intersection of Elm and Fenimore roads. Police responded to the location and searched for the dog with negative results.

7:31 p.m.— A group of 8-10 adolescents who appeared to have a BB gun in their possession were reported to be causing a disturbance at Greenacres Field on 60 Huntington Ave. Police arrived and informed the youths that the park was closed. After explaining that they had not realized that the park was shut down after hours, the youths left the field. A BB gun was not spotted, but patrol did observe a cap gun. No further police action was required.

Monday, April 18

12 a.m.— A Mamaroneck Road resident reported a dog, possibly his neighbor’s pet, to be trapped in his yard. Police arrived and spoke to the caller’s neighbor, who did, in fact, own the dog. The dog was procured and safely returned home by its owner.

8:10 a.m.— A caller from Haverford Road complained that someone had knocked down her mailbox. Police arrived and found car tracks leading from the complainant’s driveway to the mailbox, as well as a small scratch at the bottom of its post. The homeowner believed that the newspaper delivery person had accidentally backed into their mailbox and requested for police to contact the newspaper company to ensure that the matter was addressed.

11:34 a.m.— A P.O. Supervisor reported that a Vernon Road resident was trying to fight with of his carriers. Police arrived on scene and determined that the argument stemmed from a past traffic dispute. No further police assistance was necessary.

12:27 p.m.— A coyote was spotted running on Quentin Road. The animal was gone upon patrol’s arrival.

9:43 p.m.— A silver Mini Cooper was spotted driving erratically and speeding between 1 Weaver Street and 1 Palmer Ave on its way towards Heathcote Five Corners. Police did not locate the vehicle.

11:03 p.m. – An accident occurred south of the northbound Crane Road entrance on the Bronx River Parkway. Neither motorists required medical assistance. Scarsdale Police assisted Westchester County police with traffic until an additional unit was cleared from the scene.

11:22 p.m.— Assistance was requested at the Bronx River Parkway and Crane Road for a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

Tuesday, April 19

9:05 a.m.— A Vernon Road resident complained that construction vehicles from a neighboring property were damaging his lawn upon entering and exiting the construction site. The complainant stated that the project’s contractor had promised to fix the noticeable tire tracks and damaged grass on her front lawn in the near future, but she wanted it repaired immediately. Police informed a worker on scene to notify the contractor of the complainant’s wishes once he arrived at the site and told the calling party to report any future aggravation.

11:27 a.m.— An unknown person scratched the paint on their car’s rear passenger side door at Freightway Garage on 17 Popham Road.

1:35 p.m.— Two large potholes were reported in the northbound lane of Post Road between Crane and Sherbrooke roads. Police examined the area but found all in good order.

5:30 p.m.— A Meadow Road resident’s house was found burglarized after the homeowner arrived home and found the back door smashed open and items missing from her residence.

6:44 p.m.— A minor automobile accident with minor injuries occurred on the Hutchinson River Parkway South near Exit 20. SVAC 18 transported hurt parties to the White Plains Hospital Emergency Room.

Wednesday, April 20

8:59 p.m.— A gray 2002 Mitsubishi and a gray 2006 Toyota collided on 2 Drake and 1 Heathcote roads.

10:53 p.m.— A caller stated that she was involved in a motor vehicle accident on 380 Mamaroneck Road and 2 Hutchinson River Parkway.

1:17 p.m.— A gray 2007 Mazda and a blue 2003 Honda Civic were involved in a minor accident with no injuries at 5 Depot Place.

4 p.m.— A blue 2009 Toyota Camry and a red 2006 Toyota crashed into each other on 2 Popham and 6 Garth roads.

6:58 p.m.— A Palmer Avenue resident reported that someone had damaged a tree on his property.

11:25 p.m.— A caller reported a group of adolescents loitering in the first level of the Freightway. The call was later declared to be unfounded.

Thursday, April 21

12:42 p.m.— A Ridgedale Road resident reported hearing voices and laughing outside his home, as well as a car driving away from his property. Upon investigation, the homeowner found two vacuum cleaners placed on the edge of their lawn. Although no damages occurred, the complainant wished for police to document the incident.
