Scarsdale Police Blotter: Household Intruders, Lost License Plates and Canine Cacophony

This week in Scarsdale, drivers reported lost license plates, two homeowners received unwelcome house guests and barking dogs disturbed neighborhood residents.

Tuesday, Feb. 15

9:14 a.m. – A Brookby Road resident called police to report that a medium-sized dog with an unidentified owner was using her lawn as a bathroom. Police offered to investigate the incident, but the complainant only wished to document the dog’s actions at the time.

12:45 p.m.— The assistant manager of Chase Bank on 20 Palmer Ave. stated that money was fraudulently taken from an account. An offense report was filed.

6:01 p.m.— A caller from Overhill Road phoned police after observing a man sleeping in a running vehicle at the crossroads of 2 Overhill and 50 Popham roads. Police canvassed the area, but did not observe a sleeping man in a vehicle. All was in order upon patrol’s departure.

7:56 p.m.— A Saxon Woods Road caller was concerned that an unknown male subject was attempting to break into his residence. Police reported to the location, and spoke with the party seeking entrance into the house. The man explained that he was a process server trying to serve the homeowner with divorce papers. Police entered the client identification number from the process server’s New York State driver’s license into the NYSPIN database, and discovered that he was on Federal probation for securities fraud. NYSPIN stated that law enforcement was to contact the alleged intruder’s parole officer within 24 hours of police contact. Police attempted to contact the officer to no avail before informing the Saxon Woods Road resident that the man was indeed a process server.

Wednesday, Feb. 16

7:05 a.m. A coyote was spotted in the backyard of a Houseguard Lane home. Police canvassed the area with negative results.

9:20 a.m.— A Tara Drive resident reported to Scarsdale Police dispatch to inform patrol that his credit card had been stolen and fraudulently used.

Thursday, Feb. 17

7:04 a.m. – A Mamaroneck Road resident reported a dog barking for an extended period of time. Upon investigation, the owner had apparently brought the canine outside to relieve itself before being brought promptly inside.

9:33 a.m. – A Village resident reported to police that he had lost his front New York license plate within the confines of Scarsdale.

11:33 a.m.— A caller reported that a Carstensen Road resident was upset and needed a welfare check. After receiving no response, police spoke with the caller who stated that the party was now at their home in Hartsdale. All was in order upon the conversation’s completion.

3:03 p.m.— A Brite Avenue resident filed a police report at the advice of her lawyer after her ex-husband had entered her house without permission the previous Tuesday. Upon conversing with her ex-husband, he had stated that he was putting the children to bed, despite the fact that the complainant’s divorce had been finalized in December and her husband was legally not allowed in the house as of January 2011. He was, however, allotted several hours of visitation with their mutual children on most Tuesdays and Thursdays. The complainant informed police that she would provide documentation to buttress her claims, and police advised her to change her garage door code to avoid future intrusions.

3:40 p.m.— A school employee at Scarsdale Middle School observed a disoriented male who was talking to himself enter campus facilities. Police arrived and spoke with the school’s athletic director, who knew the man as an enthusiastic regular at the high school’s basketball games. No police action was required.

4:53 p.m.— A green Mini-Cooper was seen driving erratically at 30 Spencer Place. Police perused the area, but did not observe any vehicles matching the above description.

6:03 p.m.— A police officer found a license plate in front of the Starbucks doorway on 51 East Parkway.

6:52 p.m.— A Popham Road resident filed a case report after complaining that his domestic had stolen money from him. 

8:27 p.m.— A caller reported that she had found BMW car keys at Quaker Ridge School. The keys were turned into the head custodian, who left the keys in the main office for the vehicle owner to pick up.

11:41 p.m.— A Garth Road resident called police after a license plate was moved from her vehicle during the early morning hours of Feb. 17.
