Scarsdale Police Blotter: Laser Beams, a Lunging Lexus and Lost Loot

The last week of 2011 in Scarsdale gave us false alarms, a hit-and-run and young litter bugs.

Tuesday, Dec. 27 – Friday, Dec. 30

Tuesday, Dec. 27
9:06 a.m. – A painter charged that four months ago, he performed some work at a home on Madison Avenue for which he has never received payment. While driving on Willow Avenue, the painter recognized the car of the resident for whom he performed the work. He alerted police who informed him that the issue was a civil matter. He was advised as to how to pursue the matter in court.

11:11 a.m.­ – A call from Lexus monitoring service reported receiving a signal from one of their owner vehicles. The operator of the vehicle was found at Balducci’s located at 15 Palmer Avenue. She explained that she had mistaken the gas pedal for the brake pedal while putting the car in reverse resulting in the car striking the lift gate of a Coca-Cola trailer. There were no injuries to report. The trailer was without damage. However, the Lexus sustained damage to the windshield.

12:21 p.m. – Police responded to a false alarm when a burglar alarm was tripped at a residence on Broadmoor Road. A worker at the home explained that she accidently set off the alarm when she entered the home. Without having the code, the worker locked the door and left the residence.

1:07 p.m. – The Dutchess County Department of Corrections called to inquire about pending charges in the Scarsdale jurisdiction against an inmate in their custody who was soon to be released. They were told that there were no outstanding charges.

2:06 p.m. – A burglar alarm signal was received from a residence on Swarthmore Road. A gate lock was found broken and on the ground. It was unclear whether the damage was recent or from some time ago. The alarm company was notified of the findings.  

6:45 p.m. – A Yonkers resident reported that her wallet was lost somewhere in the Village of Scarsdale. The wallet contained cash, credit cards, postage stamps, insurance cards and her license and registration. A lost property report was filed.

Wednesday, Dec. 28
5:36 p.m. – A call was received to report an auto accident at 1000 Post and Drake roads involving a Liberty Lines Bus. There were no injuries reported.

6:20 p.m. – The owner of a black Saab reported a hit-and-run accident occurring in front of a barber shop on Scarsdale Ave.

7:30 p.m. – A call was made to report the presence of a suspicious vehicle with Connecticut license plates, parked in the driveway of the Ethical Society on Saxon Woods Road. When patrols arrived the vehicle could not be located. The location was monitored throughout the evening.

8:36 p.m. – Two residents on Dunham Road reported that a red laser was being shined into their home by a man dressed in black. Patrols arrived and canvassed the area. All was in order with no sightings of the man in black or the laser pointer.

9:56 p.m. – A call was made by a worker at Bank of America on Christie Place who accidently locked himself inside of the bank. Officers assisted the worker out of the bank by pulling up the security gate allowing the worker to slide under and out of the bank. Bank security was advised of the method of removal.

THURSDAY, Dec. 29
9 a.m. – A resident on Chesterfield Road called to report a call she received stating that a worker would be arriving at her home to work on her gas line. After placing a call to ConEd to verify the work she learned that ConEd had no knowledge of the work order. With patrols on the scene a van from “Precision Pipeline” arrived. The driver of the van explained that frequently ConEd fails to send out notifications. The home owner stated that she will require written notification from ConEd prior to having any work done on the premises.

11:24 p.m. – A resident on White Road called to report a noise complaint. A number of youths were inside of a jeep parked in front of his home. When officers arrived they found three occupants in the jeep who explained that they had just dropped off a friend and were leaving the area.

FRIDAY, Dec. 30
1:03 a.m. – A Griffen Avenue resident called to report that he lost electrical power at his home. With officers on the scene, smoke was visible when an attempt was made to reset the main circuit breaker in the home. The Scarsdale Fire Department arrived on the scene and checked the residence. It was deemed safe. The resident was advised to contact an electrician.

2:55 a.m. – A call arrived from a resident to report that a large vehicle resembling an SUV carrying young individuals was seen on Bradford Road with objects being thrown from the windows. When officers arrive the vehicle could not be located.
