Scarsdale Police Blotter: Loose Dogs, Public Urination and Mysterious Home Vacancies
Last week in Scarsdale, loose dogs disturbed pedestrian activity, a mischievous youth urinated on a Clarence Road lawn and a vacant Windmill Circle home prompted questions about the homeowner's whereabouts.

MONDAY, APRIL 11- FRIDAY, APRIL 15
Monday, April 11

6:08 p.m.— A caller reported a group of adolescents blasting music from a car parked in front of Yogo Joy on 16 Harwood Court. Police arrived and spoke to three teens, who were legally parked in front of the establishment. Although no loud music was observed, police nevertheless advised the youths to curb any behavior that might agitate the public.
6:35 p.m.— A Post Road resident called police to complain about a raccoon in her backyard. Police spoke with the homeowner, who soon after reported that the raccoon had run away.

7:23 p.m.— A caller reported a pungent odor of natural gas on Morris Lane. The Scarsdale Fire Department arrived on scene and notified Con Edison. No further police assistance was requested.
8:34 p.m. – A suspicious individual was reported at Edgewood School. Upon arrival, patrol identified the unknown party as the school custodian talking on her cell phone next to the dumpsters.
Tuesday, April 12
3:17 a.m.— A caller reported loud music blasting from Morris Lane.
7:59 a.m.— A pedestrian walking her dog on Woods Lane was approached by an unleashed, barking dog near a neighboring residence. The caller left the area without incident. Police spoke with the homeowner, who was unaware that his dog had left the house and promised patrol that the incident would not be repeated.
4:53 p.m.— A caller from Farragut Road reported that a Scarsdale Union Free School District bus had backed into her driveway and knocked over some curb stones. Police examined the area and did not find any evidence of tire tracks in the grass, although they did note the displaced curbstones and damaged driveway. Patrol spoke with the bus transportation department, who verified that a local school bus makes a regular drop-off across the street from the damaged property. The bus was tracked down, and no apparent damage was observed by police. Patrol advised the complaining party to discuss the issue with the transportation department.
7:48 p.m.— A set of keys with no identifying tags were found at the intersection of Nelson and Sprague roads.
9:29 p.m.— A large tree branch was reported as blocking Hutchinson Road. Patrol arrived and moved a small tree branch to the side of the road.
11:11 p.m.— An open door at Yogo Joy was discovered by police during directed patrol. Police contacted the owner after verifying that no criminal activity had occurred. The door was eventually secured, leaving all in apparent good order upon patrol’s departure.
11:46 p.m.— A caller from Clarence Road reported a youth urinating on his neighbor’s lawn. Police interviewed the homeowner, who stated that four adolescent males in a dark colored SUV had stopped in front of the road before engaging in the reported mischief and driving away. The homeowner advised police that the youths had caused trouble in the area before, and that they once witnessed the males smoking what they believed to be marijuana in public on the street. Patrol were unable to locate the youths, but assured the complainants that they would heighten patrol of the area.
3:58 p.m.— Patrol responded to Jefferson and Hamilton roads after a widespread power outage was occurred due to a severe rain and windstorm. After canvassing the area for downed trees and wires, patrol provided the telephone number for Con Edison and advised residents to contact the company to restore power to their residences.
Wednesday, April 13
11:52 a.m.— A Brewster Road resident reported a stolen bike. An incident report was filed.
1:16 p.m.— A caller from Windmill Circle reported that her neighbor’s front door had been open all morning. Police canvassed the interior and found the house vacant and unfurnished, with an open safe in a bedroom closet containing bank statements and an expired Ghanaian passport. A Postal employee informed police that the resident had been evicted, and that his mail was currently on hold with no forwarding address. The whereabouts of the resident’s legal owner – the missing party’s wife – are currently unknown. Police were able to secure the location.
4:57 p.m.— A Leatherstocking Lane resident requested patrol’s assistance after a suspicious-looking vehicle with tinted windows parked on the side of her home made her nervous to enter her home. Police arrived and observed the car, an unoccupied white 2000 Mitsubishi Galant, parked by the side of the residence. Patrol canvassed the home’s interior and found no evidence of criminal activity. The car was parked legally and no police action was required. A small work ladder was spotted in the vehicle’s back seat, leading involved parties to surmise that the owner might be performing work in the area.
5:30 p.m.— A vehicle struck a parked car on Brookby Road and left the scene.
7:59 p.m.— A Donnellan Road resident reported that they had been receiving harassing phone calls. An incident report was filed.
Friday, April 15
12:20 p.m.— A Lyons Road resident found a black dog with a red collar and no name tags in his front yard. The New Rochelle Humane Society arrived to retrieve the dog. Shortly after their departure, the dog’s owner arrived on scene and was notified of her canine’s whereabouts.
5:06 p.m.— A golden 2006 Honda Accord and a gray 2002 Honda collided on Fenimore and Elm roads.
5:17 p.m.— A Stratton Road resident requested an interior check of her residence after finding her front door ajar. All was found to be in good order.
10:39 p.m.— The glass sliding interior entrance door was found unlocked at the Bank of America on 1140 Wilmot Road. No evidence of criminal activity was detected.
