Scarsdale Police Blotter: Loud Parties, Home Burglaries and Too Many Raccoons

This week in Scarsdale, teenagers disrupted their neighbors with loud, late-night parties, a home was broken into in Greenacres and raccoons lurked on roadways, front steps and decks across the village.

Monday, Sept. 26

6:24 p.m. — The operator of a 2004 Toyota locked his keys in his car while parked at Balducci's. R&D Towing responded to his call and opened the vehicle. 

6:34 p.m. — A caller from Balducci's reported a green Mercedes weaving back and forth across Palmer Road. The complainant feared that the driver, an elderly man with gray hair, was in no condition to operate a vehicle. Police later received a report stating that a car driving into Balducci's parking lot had struck a parked vehicle. Police did not know whether the two incidents were related. 

Tuesday, Sept. 27

7:48 a.m. — A raccoon was reported in Heathcote Road. Police canvassed the area but did not find the animal. 

7:57 a.m. — A Jefferson Road resident reported a suspicious female with short black hair who had apparently been walking around the neighborhood for several consecutive days carrying a walkie talkie and a backpack. Police did not locate the reported party but informed the homeowner that they would canvass the area and respond to any future calls involving the female.

8:22 a.m. — A Kent Road resident received a threatening letter in the mail at her Ogden Road workplace. According to police reports, the complainant had been mailed a greeting card containing a typed note taped to the interior of the card. The card's envelope had also been typed, contained additional postage and had been hand-stamped on Sept. 23. The complainant informed police that she believed the letter might have been sent by a party upset due to recent work cutbacks and layoffs. 

9:45 p.m. — A possibly intoxicated male was reported walking in the middle of the road near Church and Wayside lanes. The man was described as overweight individual wearing a backwards baseball hat. Officers canvassed the area but did not locate the man. 

Wednesday Sept. 28

1:08 a.m. — A Heathcote Road homeowner called police after believing she heard a trespasser inside her residence. Patrol checked the residence's exterior and found all to be in good order. 

8:45 a.m. — A caller reported a possibly sick raccoon in the intersection of Kingston Road and Brite Avenue. Police did not locate the animal. 

1:20 p.m. — A West Harrison resident reported that his vehicle was struck by an unknown party on Fox Meadow Road. 

1:24 p.m. — A caller reported that their tan 2003 Toyota Camry had been struck while parked on Walworth Avenue. 

1:41 p.m. — A Greenacres resident reported a home burglary. According to the caller, she left her home at approximately 9:10 a.m. and returned home at 12:18 p.m. After spending an hour downstairs, she made her way to her home's second floor and discovered she had been burglarized. Police examined the resident's exterior and discovered a broken glass panel on a rear back door, which had been forced open by the perpetrator. The homeowners did not report any items missing other than a small black safe containing items of negligible value. The caller informed police that she had previously had contract roofers enter her house, where they had been allowed entry into the room where the safe was located. Police provided the homeowners with a supporting deposition and owner's depositions that they were to complete and return to police headquarters.  

2:16 p.m. — A caller from Church Lane told police she had found a backpack on her property. The backpack. which had been nestled in the bushes near the roadway, contained a driver's license. The caller informed patrol that she had tried to contact the backpack's owner but had been unsuccessful. Police located the owner, who had previously responded to dispatch to see whether anyone had turned in his missing property. The owner found all his property, including money and a laptop, were still inside his backpack. Involved parties required no further police assistance. 

5:04 p.m. — Three youths on bikes were reported hiding in the bushes near a Fox Meadow Road residence. The homeowner confronted the kids, who stated that they were waiting for "Ronnie." According to the homeowner, nobody named Ronnie lived at the location. Patrol arrived on scene but did not find any youths. 

8:43 p.m. — A caller walking near Weaver Street and Crossway saw a women crying while walking northbound between the Hutchinson River Parkway and Heathcote 5 Corners. Concerned that she was in need of assistance, police canvassed the area but did not find the reported female. 

11:24 p.m. — Noisy youths were reported at Davis Park. Patrol arrived and found the area quiet and in good order. 

Thursday, Sept. 29 

5:01 a.m. — A caller reported that he was walking his dog on Walworth Avenue when a car swerved and pulled up to the curb and a female driver exited the vehicle and ran towards Fenimore Road without closing the door. The car was reported as a Honda with a Mt. Vernon license plate. Police did not find anyone in the area requiring police assistance. 

8:52 a.m. — Lange's Deli called Scarsdale Police to report a past act of criminal mischief after discovering damage caused to their front door by an  unknown third party.

8:32 p.m. — A caller reported that an unknown person had thrown multiple empty beer cans and water bottles across his front lawn.

Friday, Sept. 30

12:52 a.m. — A Spierer Road resident requested police assistance after hearing noises inside his home. Police canvassed the property and found all in order. 

10:37 a.m. — A Park Road homeowner reported an unknown dog in her fenced-in backyard. The dog was gone upon patrol's arrival. 

12:21 p.m. — A sick raccoon was sighted in front of a Brewster Road residence. Police did not locate the animal. 

1:24 p.m. — A caller from Wildwood Road reported that contractors had backed their vehicle onto her property and were using vulgarities at another passing motorist. Patrol arrived and spoke with the general contractor, who possessed a valid work permit. All was in good order upon patrol's departure. 

9:37 p.m. — An unknown individual rang a Park Road residence's doorbell and left before the homeowner responded. Police canvassed the area with negative results. 

Saturday, Oct. 1

8:55 a.m. — A coyote was observed on Wildwood and Secor roads. The animal was gone upon patrol's arrival. 

9:17 a.m. — A Fox Meadow Road resident reported to police headquarters to report fraudulent activity that had occurred on his credit card. 

1:40 p.m. — A Saxon Woods Road homeowner reported to dispatch after losing his keys — a ring with two house keys, one automobile key and two keychains, one emblazoned with his name and the other with the phrase "Number One Dad" — near Black Birch Road. The complainant said that he had lost the keys the previous day between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. 

7:39 p.m. — A Cornell Road resident called police after he accidentally locked himself into his bathroom. Police arrived and removed the hinges from the bathroom door. No further assistance was required. 

10:04 p.m. — A caller reported a group of youths urinating on her property. Police arrived and did not find any evidence of mischief, but a nearby household, which had been hosting a teen party with adult supervision, stated that several guests had just left their residence. Police left the area after failing to note any violations. 

10:14 p.m. — A noisy party was reported at a Gorham Road household. Patrol spoke to the homeowner, who advised that her teenage daughter was hosting a get-together with her cheerleader friends. Patrol requested that the homeowner's guests remain indoors. 

10:48 p.m. — A caller from Gorham Road reported that their neighbor's party guests had returned outside after police left the residence. Police contacted the resident again and advised them to keep the noise level down, informing residents that a summons would be issued if police were forced to return. 

11:19 p.m.— A caller reported a large group of teenagers making noise near 36 Montrose and 18 Gorham roads. Police arrived and caught sight of several individuals leaving the area by foot and a taxi. Police remained in the area until the crowd dispersed. 

11:21 p.m. — A caller from Fox Meadow Road reported a group of teenagers making loud noises. Police arrived on scene and talked with the youths, who stated they were waiting for a cab. Patrol watched them get into the cab and drive away. No further assistance was required.

Sunday, Oct. 2 

8:51 a.m. — A sick raccoon was reported on an Autenreith Road property. Patrol checked the entire property of the residence but were unable to locate said raccoon. Patrol advised the homeowner to call back if the animal should return. 

11:43 a.m. — According to a complainant from Oakwood Place, a sick-looking raccoon tried to attack him after he discovered it hiding under his home's deck. Police arrived and were unable to reach the raccoon but provided the homeowner with contact information for local trappers. 

3:07 p.m. — A caller from Balducci's reported that an unknown male was making threats in the parking lot. 

8:50 p.m. — A Stratton Road requested police presence at his house after he returned for the first time since filing a Domestic Incident report earlier that morning after a dispute with his wife. Police spoke with both parties, who agreed to sever contact with each other. No further police assistance was needed. 

Monday, Oct. 3

5:04 a.m. — A glass break was reported at Scarsdale Middle School in the new building's upper lot. After investigating the event, police discovered that two windows were broken as a result of weed trimmers being used at the school. 

7:31 a.m. — A Dolma Road resident requested police surveillance due to a suspicious silver BMW with dark tinted windows and an unknown license plate number parked near her house. Police arrived and spoke to the caller, who reported that the BMW had left the area. Police later located the BMW on Reimer Road and spoke to the owner, who reported that he was a driver for a local resident and had been idling in front of the Dolma Road resident to pass time after arriving early to work.
