Scarsdale Police Blotter: Loud Parties, Stolen Bicycles and Camping Capers

Last weekend in Scarsdale, loud parties caused noise complaints, bicycles were stolen across town and suspicious individuals plagued camping trips at Chase Road Park and the Scarsdale Alternative School.

Friday, May 27

8:56 p.m.— A Park Road resident reported a fire in their basement. Patrol arrived on scene and conducted traffic control as Chief Cain of the Scarsdale Fire Department, Greenville Fire Department, Hartsdale Fire Department and SVAC 18 and 19 extinguished the blaze. Captain Gspedaliere of the Westchester County Arson Investigation Department arrived on scene to make his evaluation. No further assistance was needed.

10:05 p.m.- A Dolma Road homeowner reported a coyote. The animal was gone upon patrol’s arrival.

2:22 p.m.— A bicycle was reported stolen from the Starbucks on 51 East Parkway.

3:57 p.m.— Police received a report that a transformer blew on 1100 Post and 54 Olmsted roads and that a pole was possibly on fire. Patrol and the Scarsdale Fire Department arrived on scene and closed the right northbound lane to repair the wire.

7:32 p.m.—A Lebanon Road resident called police to report what he thought sounded like a disturbance on Ardmore Road. Police checked the area and found all to be in good order.

8:39 p.m.— A tree was reported blocking the roadway at 79 Brite Ave. The roadway was cleared and in order by 10:15 p.m.

9:04 p.m.— A man requested a welfare check for a female Morris Lane resident after she sent a disturbing text to his wife and did not answer her door upon a subsequent visit to her home. Patrol responded to the scene and spoke with the woman’s son, who had returned home and was able to gain entry into the residence. Police spoke with the homeowner, who stated that she had broken her wrist six weeks prior and had been in continuous pain despite physical therapy. SVAC 18 checked the woman’s hand and suggested she visit an emergency room. Police allowed the woman’s son to transport her to the hospital and determined that the woman was not a threat to herself, but rather in pain from her injury. No further police assistance was needed.

9:52 p.m.— A bicycle was stolen from 12 East Parkway and 30 Spencer Place.

10:05 p.m.— A resident reported loud youths making noise behind his Hampton Road residence. Patrol arrived on scene but did not find any evidence of youth activity.   

11:01 p.m.— An erratic, possibly intoxicated driver was reported weaving in and out of lanes on 3 Mamaroneck and 1175 Post roads. Patrol canvassed the area for a vehicle matching the description given with negative results.

11:04 p.m.— A complainant reported loud music coming from Chat American Grill on 1 Christie Place. Patrol arrived but did not hear any music playing at the establishment.

Saturday, May 28

12:24 a.m.— Three teenage boys were reported throwing items at tents set up on the field at the Scarsdale Alternative School. Patrol arrived and spoke to the complainant, who reported that three youths were knocking on all the tents in the field. Police and did not note any suspicious activity but continued to canvass the area throughout the evening. The youths were later seen fleeing the location and running into the woods.

12:31 a.m.— A Chase Road resident called police to complain about the noise level of the nearby Boy Scout camping trip. Patrol spoke with the Boy Scouts’ coordinator and advised them to keep their voices down. Police did not note any loud noise other than audible conversation.

1:44 a.m.— Patrol observed a suspicious person lingering near the Boy Scout camping trip on Chase Road Park.

8:05 a.m.— A construction crew on Olmsted and Paddington Road was reported using power equipment before 10 a.m. Police arrived and explained the Village Code towards power tool usage. The workers agreed to cease their activities until further notice.

8:59 a.m.— A Myrtledale Road resident reported a violation of Village code after they heard the sounds of power equipment emanating from Myrtledale Road before 10 a.m. Police arrived and did not observe any violations, but did advise the contractor at the residence of the Village’s power equipment time restrictions.

9:57 a.m.— A silver van was parked in the driveway of an unoccupied Oak Lane residence. Patrol arrived and spoke to the homeowner’s son, who stated that he was staying at the home for the weekend in his parents’ absence.

10:14 a.m.— A Sheldrake Road resident reported a group of Rottweiler dogs howling for an extended period of time. Police canvassed the reported location for 20 minutes before declaring the call unfounded.

2:36 p.m.— A car fire was reported in the Village Hall parking lot. Patrol arrived and assisted the Scarsdale Fire Department with pedestrians and traffic while they extinguished the blaze.

3:14 p.m.— A complainant advised police of a group of solicitors on White Road. Police canvassed the area and were unable to locate the individuals.

4:38 p.m. – An unidentified caller complained about the noise level emanating from a music festival at Chase Road Park. An officer was present at the park and informed dispatch that the music’s volume was not inappropriate considering the event’s nature and the time of day.

11:39 p.m.— A caller reported youths playing basketball at Edgewood School. Police arrived, and the youths left the area without further incident.

11:56 p.m.— A Park Road resident reported that her next-door neighbor’s children were having a loud party. Police arrived on scene and noted numerous youths dispersing from the house in multiple directions. Police spoke to the gathering’s host and found out that a small group had been watching a soccer game with the homeowners’ permission before numerous unwanted guests attempted to join them. Patrol contacted the homeowner, who stated that the gathering was authorized. Police admonished all remaining parties of the Village noise ordinance before leaving the scene.

12:19 a.m.— A complainant reported a loud party on Mayflower Road.

9:26 a.m.—A baby raccoon was reported near the IHMC House of Prayer Convent. Police located the raccoon on concrete stairs near a door to the church’s library room and provided IMH personnel with a list of trappers to contact for the animal’s removal.

12:02 p.m.— A caller from Farley Road reported that someone had broken into his vehicle overnight.

12:55 p.m.— An erratic driver was spotted on Kelwynne Road. Police canvassed the area but did not find the vehicle.

4:25 p.m.— A caller reported a wire on fire on 1090 Post and 4 Ross roads. The Scarsdale Fire Department and Con Edison arrived on scene and extinguished the blaze.

6:15 p.m.— A caller reported a car with a New York license and four passengers “looking at houses” as they traveled down Boulevard. Patrol stopped the vehicle on Post Road at Evon Court, and the driver presented a valid driver’s license and explained that he and his family were seeking to buy property in the area. All was found to be in good order.

7:55 p.m.— A caller from Colby Lane reported an aggressive-acting raccoon on their back deck. After failing to locate the animal, patrol advised the complainant to contact a trapper.  

9:09 p.m.— A complainant reported noisy youths in the back parking lot of Fox Meadow School. Upon arrival, police addressed the youths, who explained they were waiting for friends. Police did not observe loud music or excessive noise, but they did advise the youths that they were violating village code by loitering on school grounds after dark. The youths left the premise without incident.

9:29 p.m.— Fireworks were reported in the area of Franklin Road. All was found quiet and in good order upon patrol’s arrival.

10:09 p.m.— A dark blue Sedan was observed idling on Marshall and Oak Lanes for a prolonged period of time. Police arrived but did not locate the vehicle.
