Scarsdale Weekly Sports Recap: Big Wins Against Mamaroneck, White Plains

Raiders have solid showing in many sports, including win over defending state champs Mamaroneck in boys baseball.

Baseball

Despite going 1-1, Scarsdale's baseball team had a very good week. That's because the Raiders beat two-time defending state champion Mamaroneck, 7-5, on May 6. Ethan Shenberg and David Wheeler, who also had three hits, each drove in three runs for the Raiders. Colin Merkel earned the win, giving up only three earned runs.

The Raiders dropped their next game to Pleasantville, 6-5 in nine innings. Jonah Garry had two hits and an RBI for Scarsdale.

Softball

Scarsdale's softball team had a busy week, winning three of four games. First, in a 7-1 win over Saunders, Caroline Varlotta and Rosaria Callara each drove in two runs. Callara also had four hits. In their next game, the Raiders crushed Mamaroneck, 13-1. Rachel Halperin had four RBIs and Callara continued her hot streak with two more RBIs.

In a weekend tournament, Scarsdale dropped its first game against Mechanicville, 5-0, but bounced back to beat Williamsville North, 3-0. In the victor, Nicole Lee went the distance on the mound to improve to 6-3. Katherine Berk and Halperin each drove in a run.

Boys lacrosse

Scarsdale lost a tough game to Mamaroneck, 5-4 to open the week. Goalie Connor Wolfe was outstanding, making 17 saves. Mike Hirson had two goals for Scarsdale. Teammate Matt Wolf added a goal and an assist. The Raiders crushed Saunders in their next game, 17-0.  Matt Oliverio led the Raiders with three goals. Brian Bauersfeld and Zach Parisi each scored twice.

Girls lacrosse

It was a great week for the Scarsdale girls lacrosse team, as the Raiders won both of their games. First was an 11-4 win over White Plains. Liz Felix had three goals and two assists. Jennie Pechman added three goals and one assist. The Raiders then beat New Rochelle, 18-6.  Kimmy Leone had six goals and two assists.
