Seely Place in Edgemont Gains Partial No Parking/No Standing Designation

The Greenburgh Town Board Tuesday approved a resolution to designate Seely Place with a no parking/no standing designation during certain school hours.

Officials set the new rule in reponse to concerns of some parents that the road was not safe enough for students to walk. Town Supervisor Paul Feiner sent out the below notice about the decision to residents, officials and staff:

RESPONDING TO EDGEMONT CONCERNS ABOUT SEELY PLACE SCHOOL CROSSING UPDATE... Board approves resolution tonight implementing no parking/no standing on Seely Place during designated school morning and afternoon hours.

Over the years many Edgemont residents have expressed concern about children walking to the Seely Place School. Our new police chief, Chris McNerney, Sgt. Nick Reckson and I recently met with some parents, the School Superintendent and a representative of the Greenville Fire department. This is what we have done so far...

• We have put out car/speed counters to gauge the vehicular volume attributable to Henry Street. We will study the Seely Place volume next.
• The Town Board approved a resolution tonight to implement no parking/no standing on Seely Place during designated morning and afternoon hours on school days. This will improve the flow of traffic on Seely PLace while increasing safety for students and parents.
• The police department has completed site distance studies and will be installing a new crosswalk in front of the Greenville Community Church. This will include the addition of illuminated signs warning of the crosswalk.
• the police department has had productive meetings with the Edgemont School District and we are partnering to continue to address the issues. The police department is reviewing additional traffic safety measures.
• *The police department is reviewing additional safety measures at the Greenville school. We are correcting the number of signs that were installed and amending the hours and days on the signs.

Town officials make housecalls to residents and neighborhood associations. We listen to community concerns. The Seely Pl vote is one example. Tonight Town Board members and department heads met with the N Elmsford Civic Association. We will follow up on their concerns.
