Space Heater Causes Fire in Hartsdale Apartment
Fire confined to second-story apartment; no injuries reported.

An electric space heater ignited a second-floor apartment in a multi-story residential building on E. Hartsdale Avenue at 7:15 p.m. Monday evening.
According to Hartsdale Deputy Fire Chief Michael F. Vicari, residents left the heater too close to the sofa, sparking a fire that spread from the living room into parts of the kitchen area and dining room.
Hartsdale firefighters responded to the premises and were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. Greenville, Fairview and Scarsdale fire departments were also on scene, along with Greenburgh paramedics, who treated a woman on the fourth floor suffering from smoke inhalation.

Other than fire, water and smoke damage on the second floor, the building did not suffer any major damages. No serious injuries were reported, and Vicari said that only two individuals would be displaced as a result of the fire.
Vicari, who was working his final shift before his last full day of service, said he was startled by the incident, but grateful for the quick regional response.
