The Weather Outside is Frightful

Snow is expected to fall until at least Saturday morning, piling up to eight inches or more; schools closed early today.

It's wet and sloppy out there, and the wintry mix won't let up any time soon.

Light rain gave way to snow around 7 this morning, and the storm is expected to extend into Saturday morning. A winter storm warning is in effect for the area until 6 p.m. Friday. Accumulations are expected to top eight inches.

Scarsdale Schools were all closed down by noon today, and all after-school activities are cancelled. If schools are closed tomorrow, the announcement will be made around 6 a.m.

A crew of 15 salt trucks is on Scarsdale's roads right now, with plows ready to roll once accumulations reach 3 or 4 inches, according to Deputy Superintendent of Public Works Eric Gerringer.

He added that people should stay off the roads and take it slow and easy if they do have to drive.

Temperatures are hovering just above freezing, so it's cold enough to snow but warm enough that it's turning into slush when it hits the ground.

By Thursday afternoon, 60,000 homes and business in eastern New York were without power, but Con Edison spokeswoman Jane Solnick said "everything looks good" in the Scarsdale area.

There are also no reported accidents or road closures, according to an officer who answered the phone at the Scarsdale Police Department.

Bee Line buses and Metro North trains are all running on time.
