Two Scarsdale Households Robbed; Jewelry Missing

Complainants from Wheelock and Eton roads reported missing jewelry to Scarsdale Police last weekend.

Complainants from Wheelock and Eton roads reported missing jewelry to Scarsdale Police last weekend after unknown intruders broke into two local homes. Both residences reported that their homes had been entered through a glass break in a rear door.

A burglary was reported on Wheelock Road on Friday evening after homeowners returned home from Manhattan and discovered that the sliding glass door in their rear living room had been smashed by an intruder. According to police reports, the home was left unattended between 6:10 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. after one of the complainants left Scarsdale to meet her husband in the city.

Police canvassed the area and determined that the home's rear door had been the intruder's point of entry and exit after discovering a large rock next to the broken glass outside. While the house contained a burglary alarm, it had not been set by the homeowners.

Patrol discovered open cabinets in the home's dining room and a disheveled master bedroom suite.Further investigation yielded several emptied jewelry containers littered across the home, as well as another barren jewelry box left on the bed in the master bedroom suite. Additional jewelry items were strewn across the floor next to the bed.

Complainants examined their belongings and reported a large amount of missing jewelry, including several watches. One missing watch was reported to be a gold timepiece valued at $500. An additional open cabinet in the dining room caused the complainants to inform police that silverware might have also been stolen.

A second home burglary was reported last Saturday evening on Eton Road after complainants returned home at 10:20 p.m. and noticed broken glass in a rear door. Pry marks were visible on door's bottom left portion, and the glass was shattered and pushed in. A home alarm had apparently been present and set during the time of the burglary.

Police arrived and found the master bedroom and bathroom in disarray. According to police reports, several jewelry items were missing.

Homeowners informed police that they had left their home around 6:10 p.m. to go to the movies and noted a white work van parked across the street from their house. Police canvassed the area and confirmed that the van belonged to an individual doing work at a nearby residence.

Patrol dusted multiple jewelry boxes for fingerprints, including a clear plastic box containing jewelry. A plastic zip lock bag containing inexpensive jewelry was found on the couch in the family room near the broken door. The bag, which was originally stored in the master bedroom's bedside, was thought to have been left behind by the perpetrator.

Homeowners told police that they'd formulate a list of missing items for further investigation.
