Restaurant Patron Calls Cops

On Aug. 13, a diner at a restaurant in Tarrytown called police and told them he had been overcharged for his food. Police actually discovered that the man had complained about his meal and refused to pay for it. Police told both the restaurant and the diner that the issue was a civil matter that should be resolved in court, if both parties chose to do so.

Queens Man Caught with More Than 7,000 Counterfeit DVDs 

A 40-year-old Queens man, who was . Port Chester Police seized 7,206 DVDs and Blue Ray discs after being contacted by an investigator from the Motion Picture Association of America, who had previously visited the flea market as part of the association's ongoing anti-piracy efforts. Police seized all the merchandise when they arrested Zuqiu Yang of Kissena Boulevard in Queens. He was charged with felony counterfeiting.

Man Reports Alleged Robbery from His Underwear

A Tarrytown man called police on Aug. 17 and told them that he had allegedly been robbed in the middle of the night. He said a friend named “Russell” had stolen $500 from the underwear he was wearing while he slept. The man then told police that the amount was $750, before saying that it was actually $1,250. The man said his friend had a key to his apartment, but he was unable to give police a description of the suspect. Police determined that there was no merit to the man’s claims and offered him medical attention, which he refused.

Residents Fight Off Would-Be Burglar 

Several Ossining The residents told police that they saw the man try to enter through a door, but one of them threw a fish bowl at the thief, causing him to flee. Police are still investigating.

Man Has License Suspended 5 Times

after the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office arrested him for driving without a license. On Aug. 14, the man was stopped for an alleged traffic violation on Route 6 in the Town of Southeast. An officer then discovered that the man's license had been suspended five times on three different occasions. Authorities also discovered a hypodermic instrument in the man’s car when they pulled him over. He was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument.

84-Year-Old Man Steals Groceries

On Aug. 14, an for allegedly stealing nearly $135 worth of groceries from a supermarket in Jefferson Valley. He is due in court on Sept. 15.

Man Steals Dump Truck, Leads Police on Chase

A 24-year-old Orangeburg man led police on a chase last Saturday after using a pickax to damage machinery at a Tappan landscaping company before stealing a dump truck. The suspect, Daniel Russo, forced both cyclists and motorists off the road during the 20-minute chase. Orangetown Police said Russo was likely driving with the emergency brake on, which heated up the truck’s inner tires and caused two of them to explode. Seven police officers suffered minor injuries during the chase, which ended at Route 303. Authorities discovered that Russo was drunk. He was charged with a DWI and four felony counts, including reckless endangerment. Russo was being held on $100,000 bail at the Rockland County Jail.

Man Charged with Taking Inappropriate Pictures of Female Shoppers at Target

Police charged a 47-year-old Sleepy Hollow Man with felony unlawful surveillance and third degree misdemeanor stalking on Monday after a surveillance camera at Target in White Plains allegedly caught him using his cell phone to take pictures up the skirts of female shoppers. Police saw the surveillance footage and arrested the man, Jose Piedra, while he was still in the store. 

Customer Skips Out on Cab Fare, Punches Cabbie

A man who refused to pay his cab fare punched a cab driver in the face after the cabbie tried to retrieve the unpaid fare.

The incident happened early Tuesday morning in Port Chester. The man got out of the cab without paying after the driver dropped him off on King Street. The cab driver went after the man, but the suspect turned around and punch him in the face several times. The cabbie had a laceration under his left eye, but refused medical attention. The suspect left the scene, so police were unable to arrest him at the time of the incident.
