A White Halloween: Scarsdale After the Snowstorm
The biggest scare residents received this Halloween weekend was a full-on snowstorm.
If you’re like most residents here in Scarsdale, you were probably preparing for Halloween and less than likely preparing for a snowstorm. Yesterday morning, the heavy, wet snow started to pile onto streets, trees and houses, causing extensive damage around town.
“I’ve been living here for almost 50 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this. We went straight from summer to winter. There are still green leaves on our trees,” said Quaker Ridge resident Bob Miller.
“Many large limbs came down from our weeping willow trees. We moved the car, and three other limbs fell, which would have destroyed the car. We also lost half of a red maple tree, which is very sad," added Bob's wife, Debbie Miller.

The storm also managed to damage many people’s weekend. Metro-North announced on their website last night that several train delays had occurred due to downed trees, and at 11:45 a.m. this morning, the JCC of Westchester was still shut down due to a power outage.
Fox Meadow resident Susan Groner said she lost half the electricity in her home, as well as all of her heat last night. “Half our house has no electricity, and there is no heat. A lot of people have the same situation. They said it was going to snow, but not this much,” she said.

Not far from Groner’s home, another situation occurred that was much more dangerous than lost electricity. “There was a fire on Fox Meadow Road. I saw a wire on fire across from a man’s house, so I told him to call the fire department. The fire truck came right away, but it was smoking like crazy!” she said. The wire is still burning.
Art Bernstein, a volunteer fireman from Heathcote, said that he can’t get in and out of his driveway after relieving another Scarsdale Fire Department van.
“Primary lines are down, and houses are without phone and cable. Some people on Fox Meadow Road are without power," Bernstein said.
