WVOX interview- a success story--escape from the Taliban
An inspiring story of how a woman escaped Afghanistan and the Taliban --and got her freedom
Sophia Bator discusses her cousins successful escape from the Taliban with Professor Sheldon Malev (who taught Sophia) on my WVOX radio program this past Friday. Her cousin Freshta was disabled by a bomb attack, told to leave her apartment by a landlord who threatened to report her to the Taliban, whipped by a metal whip on her way to the airport. A law school graduate, a women's right activist--she is now in Germany preparing for a life of freedom and happiness. Congressman Mondaire Jones and Senator Charles Schumer's office also helped with the escape as did the Marines.
If Freshta relocates to Westchester, we will organize a group of volunteers to make her transition as smooth as possible.
Although Freshta was fortunate and will be free - there are thousands of others in Afghanistan today who sadly were unable to evacuate. They don't have a future to look forward to.
