County and state leaders, recalling the Sandy-era breach nearby, have declared states of emergency as this nor'easter threatens the barrier island and bayside communities.
   

• Scammer Conned Suffolk Woman, 79, Out Of $4,200 In ID Theft Scheme: Police (patch.com) — A 79-year-old Suffolk woman was tricked into handing over her debit card to a scammer, who then withdrew about $4,200 from an ATM in Shirley the next day. Police released security images of the suspect and are asking anyone in Shirley or nearby communities with information to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously for a possible cash reward.
   

• Suffolk is sending mailers about red light camera refunds, but not everyone is receiving them (newsday.com) — Shirley residents who paid Suffolk County's red light camera fees between 2013 and 2023 may be owed refunds of up to $36 per ticket, but some are missing mail notices or struggling with the claims website. With a Dec. 8 filing deadline and total payouts capped at $45 million, locals are urged to check their eligibility and file claims promptly online or by phone.
