Bicyclist Struck By Police Cruiser Responding To Call In Shirley

The 22-year-old "suffered minor injuries" and was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, police said.

SHIRLEY, NY — A 22-year-old bicyclist was struck by a police cruiser responding to a call in Shirley on Monday night, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the officer had been driving a marked police cruiser on William Floyd Parkway at the intersection of Robinwood Drive when he struck the man just after 9 p.m. The officer had his lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash, police said.

The bicyclist “suffered minor injuries” and was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, a police spokesman said.
